Thomas Lenard Herms, 71, of New Britain, CT lost his battle with cancer March 16, 2019. Thomas was born in New Britain, CT and was the son of the late Carl Jr. and Helen (Poplawski) Herms. He served his country honorably in Vietnam while in the United States Air Force and was discharged as a Sargent in January 1971. Back in the day, Tommy enjoyed being a biker and member of the Drifters Motorcycle Association in New Britain. He retired a few years ago with his brother Wayne, from the house painting company they shared.

Tommy, as we all called him, is survived by his wife Colleen George of New Britain, CT, his three brothers Eugene Herms of Newington CT, Wayne Herms of Port St. Lucie, FL, and Carl Herms and his wife Patricia of Branford, CT, his uncle Henry Poplawski of New Britain, CT. Tommy was predeceased by his sister Lisa Belizzi and his brother Bill Herms.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a graveside service with full military honors rendered by the United States Air Force Friday, May 31, 2019 at 1 p.m. at Sacred Heart Cemetery, 662 Burritt St., New Britain, CT. There are no calling hours. The American flag will be presented to Tommy’s wife, Colleen. The Paul A. Shaker Funeral Home, 764 Farmington Ave., New Britain, CT has charge of arrangements.
