James Joseph Machowski, Sr. (Big Jim) passed away at his home December 30, 2020 at the age of 73. James was born to the late Frank and Anna Machowski on December 6, 1947 in New Britain, CT. He grew up in New Britain where he met lifelong friends, developed a passion for cars while hanging out with the crew at United Auto Services, and met his ex-wife Susan DeSena. They raised a family in Berlin, CT where James held careers as a carpenter and truck driver. James was an honest and hardworking man. He sacrificed a lot in order to provide for his family as any good parent does. Oftentimes working numerous jobs at once to put food on the table and presents under the Christmas tree. Our father loved deep sea fishing, the tranquil beauty of the ocean, and the calmness that it brought to his life. Those are some of the greatest memories that we all shared with our father over the years. Until we meet again, may you finally be at everlasting peace, find love and happiness wherever your soul lies.

James is survived by his immediate family: son’s James J. Machowski, Jr. of Puerto Rico, Michael P. Machowski of New Britain, CT, Matthew and Catherine Nguyen-Machowski, and grandson Wesley Vinh Machowski of Berlin, CT. James also leaves behind his older brother Frank Machowski, sister-in-law Rose Machowski, nephews Richard and Steven Machowski of Southington, CT.

A private graveside service to honor the life of James, Sr., will be held at Sacred Heart Cemetery, New Britain, CT where James will be buried with his parents. There are no calling hours. The Paul A. Shaker Funeral Home, 764 Farmington Ave., New Britain, CT has charge of arrangements. We're very saddened by Jim's passing. His obituary really says it so well, especially his decency and how hard working he was. He has had our friendship and respect for so many years. I'll always remember our night-fishing expedition to Twin Lakes in NW CT and how he taught me to cook blue fish (and to "always stay with the small ones").
We'll keep Jim and the family in our prayers.
With sympathy,
Rick & Anne Reibeling

Jim, Mike and Matt,

It was so sad to learn of your dad's passing. I have such fond childhood memories of Big Jim. I recall often seeing him arrive home from fishing and heading over to see what his catch was. More often than not, he had something to show me. I'd hang around to watch him clean his catch - half intrigued and half grossed out. He was always patient with all my questions! What I remember most though is his smile and laugh. They both came easily and were contagious. I am sorry for your loss and my thoughts and prayers are with you.

I met your father through Mark his old neighbor on Fairview. Wether it was in person or on the phone they always said “hey neighbor “. Your father always had a smile on his face and always came to say hello when we stopped by Fairview. Sending our deepest condolences and prayers to you all. Mark & Jen
