Obituary

Pearline Garner, 92, a long time resident of New Britain, CT., passed away Wednesday, May 26, 2021 at home surrounded by her family. Pearline was born in Evergreen Alabama on January 16, 1929, and was the daughter of the late Dillard Nared and Sindy Wright. She met Nathaniel Garner and the two were married in 1963, and remained married until his death in 2011. During their time in Connecticut raising their family, Pearline worked for many years at Stanley Works in New Britain and later at Napco in Berlin until she retired. She was a faithful member of Mount Hebron Baptist Church, joining in 1977, after several years as a member of St. James Baptist Church. Pearline enjoyed fishing, traveling with Nathaniel to North Carolina with the church, and to Florida each summer until health challenges made it too difficult. She loved to attend gospel quartet concerts and was a really big Willie Neal Johnson and the Gospel Keynotes fan. Pearline greatly enjoyed cooking for her family and friends, serving her Sunday dinners for many years. She was known for her desserts like her sweet potato pies and her delicious pound cakes.

Pearline leaves to cherish her memories: her grandchildren: Tyrone (Daisy), Eddie (Pam), Charlene, LaDwan, Sharika, Stephanie (Colin), Eric (Stachia) and their families, including great grandchildren Tyrone, Jasmine, Marcus, Kristen, Stephanie (Lanette), Chelsea, Brittany, Cameron and Caleb; great-great grandchildren, including Julius; sister-in-law Pat Reese, special cousin Mary Thompson-Gray, a special niece Barbara Simms-Murray; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Pearline was predeceased by her two daughters Thelma Aiken and Felicia Pitts; her sister Sarah Thomas, her brother Frank Nared, niece Sarah “Sister” Thomas; special friends; Mabel Moore, Lucille Simms, Vanard “Tony” Dawkins and son-in-law Joseph Aiken.

To My Family, Auntie was a great pillar she loved and wanted to be Love. As a youth, I would always look up to her and as I got older I would always buy or send her something. She and My Mother Lucille D. Sims were very close after residing in SC they still talked every day until my Mom gained her wing she cried right along with us. Then in 2019, I got to go spend a day with her just to see her smile and the hug was enough. She would call me 2-3 times a week are you okay I would say yes. Just before she got sick she gave me a grocery list of all the Southern stuff she had a taste for in SC I mailed it to her. In March I had 2 neck surgeries she stated Barb are you sure your ok I said yes what about you she said I am hanging on but I knew what she was saying even when I could not talk she said I just wanna let you hear my voice. Auntie, I love you and will miss you and our Conversation Sleep and rest in the bosom of the Lord To be absent from this old world is to be present with the Lord your resting in the arms of the Lord. Family Keep your head up when we think of Auntie cherish her smile and her good meals and the LOve she had for us all.
